Wrap Up

The budget cuts have been approved, and our Public Access station for the county was axed.  As of the end of this month, the plans for my show will officially change course.  I’m not sure exactly what direction to take this in.  I have everything I need to do a webcast kind of thing, except for the camera.  Have the editing software/hardware.  Have the scripts.  Need a little bit of knowledge on getting it from the final stage to the web, but I’m sure that will be easy to come by.   But again, is that the direction I want to go in?  Time for some reflection and evaluation, I think.   I have a lot going on to say the least!

Class was good tonight.  I think changing instructors was a good idea…I can relate better and she seems to stay on task better.  Now, if only there was some mandatory prelim for students taking classes on the web (this one’s both classroom & web)…there always seems to be at least one person that it just doesn’t click with and we end up spending an inordinate amount of time waiting for that one person to “get it”.  Interestingly enough, the pre-requisite course for this class was a blended (classroom & web) course.  Wonder how they got by that?!  Oh well, enough of my complaining.  We’re learning web design using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) w/ XHTML and going over design principles.  The next class in the series is the Advanced class using Dreamweaver….and in between, I’m picking up a weekend class in Flash.  Pretty geeky, eh?  LOL.  All this just to design a few websites for work…well, and for the piece of paper.  I’m diggin’ it…  that’s what counts.

Ky’s off to Kansas in the morning… time to fly and experience life.  I hope it’s a good experience for her.  So much I wanted to tell her before she left.  Mom things…but there wasn’t time.  I don’t think the year and a half I’ve known her would have been enough time!  May be a good theme for a scrapbook…stuff I’d have told a daughter along the way to adulthood…  Will have to give that one some more thought.

Tomorrow’s Friday…no big plans for the weekend.  The days fly by so quickly…it’s scary.  Will have to check the paper and see if there’s anything interesting going on in the area.  And see what the weather’s going to be like.  Was anyone else surprised about that hurricane hitting Texas?!  Living in Florida, you’d think we’d hear more about a storm in the Gulf, even if it wasn’t threatening us!  Kind of weird.   Past time for bed, my friends…hope y’all have a great night’s sleep and a fab-o Friday.

Peace…

Back to School

No surprise, I’m taking classes again.  This time in web design.  I’m sure I’ll end up with a real degree or two sooner or later, but for me it’s more about just learning something new.  Or getting better at something I have an interest in.   I’ll have a certificate in web design in May 2008.  And I think I’ll throw in a real class towards that “real” degree…next fall - and maybe I’ll get serious about finishing.

The point of this post really is just to say I’m most proud of my friend-girl (an Ursula-inspired term) Jenny…she is officially in nursing school this fall.  I know a bit about how hard nursing school is - my Mom went while we were growing up & I used to help her study.  And I know how stressed she would get at times.  But Jenny’s really dedicated to becoming a nurse.  I admire not only the fact that she “knows” what she wants to be when she grows up but also that she’s pursuing her dream.  No matter what.  And her classes are WAY harder than any of mine.  Microbiology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology…more math, nursing stuff… and who knows what else!   So very proud of you girlie!!

Study on!

Fly the flag, hug your significant other, your kid(s) and/or pet(s), and spend a few minutes today to reflect.  Remember.  Then go DO something without expecting something in return… give blood, put change in the other guy’s parking meter, smile and say “hi” to your neighbor, send a friend a note “just because” (yes, in the US Mail, even!).  Life is short…and precious.

Roll with the Changes…or not.

Let’s see…the ups & downs of raising teenagers, taking college classes, dating and then not, decluttering, our 4-legged “kids”, design work, the end of summer…where would you like to start?  Ironically, not much has really changed…just experiencing Life.  Today’s been kind of a strange…have you ever had a dream, then woke up in the morning feeling like it was real?  Or at least parts of it.  I don’t often remember what I dream, let alone have it be so vivid and real that it messes with my head like this.  All day, I’ve been sorting through it…trying to categorize and make sense of it.  I get it, but it still leaves me with that slightly off balance feeling.  Working through some unresolved issues I suppose.   Getting back into being creative again.   Working on some ideas…and writing.  Boy, have I missed that.    Back at it…  Happy Sunday!
